Range
I went off the road last night about sunset and ended up spending the night in the ditch in my car. We walked to a farmhouse, but it was all locked down tight. So, back to the car we went and settled in. Luckily I keep extra winter gear in my car and it didn’t drop below 25°F, so we didn’t freeze out. A bit uncomfortable, but do-able. Walked a few miles this morning, met a really nice rancher who pulled us out and went immediately to eat the largest, most wonderful breakfast I’ve had in a very long time. Next time I’m packing food…
Here’s a photo I took before the evening went downhill and off the road; I love how the fence lines play with each other, leading you back to the foothills and then the mountain range beyond.

Sounds like a Montana adventure to me. My father often hikes, hunts and skis the mountain range you have photographed here, and has shared similar stories.
Nice composition, the way the fence enhances the roll of the land.
Hi Diane,
Thanks for your note. Definitely an adventure, I’m just glad it was a fairly tame one.

Stories like these make me thank my lucky stars that mobile phone networks in Finland have practically complete coverage.
After all, the areas where I live are almost as sparsely inhabited as Montana.
P.S. As the son of a Montana native, I was overjoyed to find your blog through the Fine Arts photoblog. If we’d only have your Mountains over here I’d be satisfied.
Hi Ramin,
Thanks for your comments, I’m very glad that I can bring a little bit of Montana to you there in Finland. Interesting that you mentioned cell phone coverage - I might be the last person around here not to have one…and Finland must be the cell phone capitol of the world, no? I’ve read a lot about the technologies you have in place there, some really cool, advanced features/applications by US standards. My not having one the other evening made me think hard about making the purchase, which I might just do! I actually borrowed one for a snowy drive I’m making tomorrow, just in case…
Thanks for stopping in and leaving me a note, Ramin.
