Morning Stand
Alright, one more picture from Yellowstone. This was taken in essentially the same exact spot as the second image down in my YNP, I - Color from mid-January. It’s a place along the road near Soda Butte where I like to stop right in the middle of everything, get out and take a few frames…every time I go. The contents of the scene remain the same, but it’s always intriguing to me how the early light of day (Yellowstone is one of the few places I rise for early) plays with the composition and changes it into something new.
UPDATE — It came to my attention while viewing this image on a friend’s computer that it appear to be a black and white or duotone image. On my monitor it has some really subtle color tones, a little blue, a little white, a little yellow. Question - how does it appear on your monitor?

looks b&w on my monitor. gorgeous picture, like always!
Beautiful winter shot! I can see why people might think it’s a black and white shot, but on my monitor I can see a bit of yellow or pink (warm tones) in the sky and stream and possibly a tinge of burgundy in the branches of the bush in the foreground.
Thanks for your input on the image, Cambria and Diane. I’ve been noticing a few other things with my images lately - on some newer LCDs they appear almost yellowish, but they’re not supposed to. I’m not sure what’s going on my with my color as it’s been calibrated and profiled. Monitors are all different, I think we know that, but sometimes I wish we were all back in the days of CRT so that things just looked right across the board. Again, though, thanks for your input!
this is really nicely done. I love the exposure and the tone. absolutely beautiful!
Hi Jung, I appreciate your comment. Yellowstone offers some amazing scenes, you should try to visit the park one day if you’ve not already. Dawn in Lamar Valley is worth the drive alone. Thanks again!
