Season of the Calf
Been a bit busy the past few days…missed posting yesterday. I did, however, get out for some photographic exploring. We woke up yesterday to about 8 - 10 inches of new snow and it was beautiful outside. I spent a good part of the afternoon and early evening driving back roads at the northern edge of the Crazy Mountains. This time of the year is calving season for the area ranchers and it translates into long nights, early mornings and twice as many cattle as you had the week before. This image of two cows with their fresh calves trailing behind seemed to fit rather well…

I love this post! BUT 8-10 inches of snow!! My father often heads up north around Chester to help my aunt and uncle with their calving. Pour calves, can you imagine being born in the winter with freezing temps and 8-10inches of snow. Brrrrr…. You know this is another wonderful post with cows, but yet I’ve noticed you resist adding it in your “tag cloud”.
Oh, I spoke with my dad today and he mentioned that he had looked at your blog and enjoyed seeing the Shields Valley posts. He also mentioned that he would look into figuring out the exact location of his family’s homestead in the Sweet Grass Hills. So, when I find out I’ll pass it along. I have a feeling a GPS will be helpful.
Thank you for your comment, Diane. It’s funny that you brought up adding ‘cow-scapes’ to my tag cloud. Classic. I almost added it, but then backed away for whatever reason. I know I’ll end up doing it anyway, but I guess I’m just being stubborn on this.
Thank you for your continued efforts on the homestead project. I just happen to have a GPS and can’t think of a better way to use it… If there’s anything I can do on my end, just let me know. I can’t wait to see if it all pans out!
No need to feel bad about not adding ‘cow-scapes’, I totally understand where you’re coming from on this one. Just teasin’ ya a bit.
No worries, Diane, I knew you were teasing.
I just thought it was kind of funny because I came so close to adding the tag, but hesitated again…and you called me on it. I thought it was pretty classic…
