Cutler Dusk

Today my friends Kelly, Bryan and I decided to go for a drive south of Livingston in Paradise Valley. The weather was unbelievable - about 80°F with a mild breeze to take the edge off and a few clouds here-and-there for the occasional minute of shade. We ended up at the Yellowstone River in Yankee Jim Canyon for a meal of bratwurst over an open fire at the edge of the water as the sun went down…can’t beat it. After finishing our meal we drove south to Cutler Lake and I was able to get this shot before all the light disappeared. Granted, there isn’t really any direct light in the photo, but I’m a big fan of reflected ambience anyway. The only bummer was that the near-full moon was rising just out of the frame to the left…just a little later and it would have slid perfectly into view, but the light would have been gone. Regardless, I’ve found a great new spot to photograph and will likely be doing more color shots from the same area once things green up around the lake and the water level comes up a bit.
