9th Street Bridge

How about a little journalism? Today there was some excitement in little ol’ Livingston, MT.  As the Yellowstone River courses past the town’s southern border it forks several times and creates a number of islands. The largest of these, 9th Street Island, has both homes and businesses on it, including Oasis Environmental where my friend Max works. This afternoon the raging waters finally destabilized one of the pylons, causing it to sink several feet into the river. In turn, the bridge buckled slightly at one end and damaged the road surface pretty badly. The second image gives you an idea how much the bridge is sagging, just follow the handrail across and you’ll see where it dips… Once authorities were notified they ordered an evacuation of the island so that people wouldn’t be stranded. They wouldn’t let people drive across, for obvious reasons, and instead put life preservers on them all and walked them over on foot. The last group to cross included my buddy, Max, who can be seen in the third of today’s images wearing a hat, white t-shirt and sunglasses. I bet he wonders how long his truck will be stuck on the far side of a river he had driven across just a few hours prior…

  1. Hi Cody,

I’m the lady in the picture holding the gray bag coming off the bridge. I’m a multimedia specialist and am coming out with my first tv show very shortly.

I would love to share what I’m doing. it’s incredible. It’s called Artists of Yellowstone Country.

    Thanks.

  2. Hi Tammy. Thanks for saying hello and putting a name to the face in the photo. I’m anxious to hear more about your project. There are a lot of wonderful artists in our neck of the woods and it’ll be interesting to see what your focus is. I did a quick search for Western Sky Multimedia and couldn’t find a website. Do you have one, or a site related to your current project? Thanks again for stopping by.
