Point of Peace
I just returned from a 4-day photo adventure through some of my favorite regions of Montana, Idaho and Wyoming…all ablaze with the colors of fall. Like a stained glass kaleidoscope, the mountains and forests were something out of a myth. As has been said before, time flies…and boy, was I having fun. Despite all the amazing yellows, oranges and reds, I’ve decided on this image as my first post from the trip. The scene represents so much about my love for this land - the serenity that hangs in beautiful balance, the distant peaks that hold one’s eye to the horizon of all things, the pristine isolation that pales by those who traveled this land before me and the humbling effect of all. Can a photograph register my immense pride at being a resident of these wild lands? This one comes about as close as any…

I think a photograph can show the pride you feel in your surroundings. This shot sure does show some of the iconic symbols of Montana: the mountain ranges and big sky. Even if the sky is mostly shown through its reflection.
Stunning image. It seems that storm cloud opened up just over that solitary tree.
I think your proof is right here. Your enthusiasm for this area refects onto the images you choose to take(or they choose to take you). I have experienced your immediate pulling over on photo drives when you see a particular scene.
This is a stunning one!
point of peace indeed.
@Ramin - Thank you Ramin, great to hear from you. I think you’re almost about ready to come to the States and I’ve never replied with the info you requested. I’ll get on that… I can tell you there’s about a foot of snow since last night…dress warm!
@Diane - Thank you, Diane. Yes, the little funnel of rain coming down was just too perfect not to line up. I actually took one step to my left to keep the tree from being perfectly centered…which would have been just too cliche’.
@Vicki - I hope you continue to experience my ‘immediate pulling over’, I enjoy our photo adventures a great deal. Thanks for your continued support, V8.
@Cassidy - Well lookie there…it’s the C*. Thanks for your comment dear, and your visit. When do we get to go on a photo adventure in Canada??? Soon I hope!
Great shot Cody. When I look at it, I get wrapped up in the composition, depth, and contrast of the sky, and yet the tree and land are there to break up the reflection. I like how the reflection in the lake finishes the sky you would see above, like holding a mirror at an angle.
Hey Cre, thanks for stopping by m’friend. The foreground really gets me on this one, fading to black with the clouds still reflecting…illusionary. Is that even a word? Let’s get out on the road for a photo day soon, maybe next weekend in Yellowstone - they close all but the Cooke City road on Monday, Nov. 3rd.
