Pine Ice
In cold weather, the geothermal steam in Yellowstone grows on anything within reach. I was fascinated by the horizontal ice during my last visit, an inch or more thick on only one side of every tree or rock in sight. Though I can’t say I captured it the best I could have, it [...]
Passing Through
I spent today in Yellowstone Park with Ken Kapinski, a fellow photographer and Livingston Photo Society member. Cold, beautiful, sleepy…that was my day. We saw plenty of critters, including 16 coyotes, more than a dozen wolves and probably 30 big horn sheep…along with the one million elk and buffalo that are everywhere in [...]
Lengthening Days
I’m cheating a bit again. I’ve had some program errors that have kept me for posting for the last couple of days, plus project work has had me buried and I didn’t get out and shoot this weekend. I’ve found myself a number of times thinking about the lengthening days and the warmer winds just [...]
Zen Drifts
Today I went on a photo drive with my friend Vicki on Brackett Creek Road, the back way in to Bridger Canyon from Livingston. Windy, windy…but still beautiful outside. The drifts were piling up with snow blowing endlessly and this scene came along and captured me instantly.
Linger
Another brutal day outside - at 6am this morning it was nearly 40°F, four hours later it was -6°F and dumping snow viscously. So, back to the archives I go. This image was taken in 2005 in a sunflower field near the Springhill community here in Montana; it was quite an amazing field to [...]
Blaming Winter
I’ve not been able to get out and photograph for nearly a week. Temperatures here have been rather miserable - at one point last evening I checked and it was -14°F and -34°F wind chill. As a result, I’ll probably miss a few days or pull from the archives…at least until it warms [...]
Snowcosm
I saw this micro-scene while walking back to my car from the Upper Terrace photo shoot in Yellowstone. Tiny tips of evergreen, protruding from the snow and lending to the drifted ‘landscape’ below them.
